The Gazebo in Downtown Smithville
We’re really enjoying the holidays here in Smithville. The Festival of Lights on December 6 was fabulous, we had good weather all day. The parade and lighting of the Gazebo was great as usual. The Smithville Area Chamber of Commerce cooked a giant sugar cookie and there was a bonfire in the park with all gathered around socializing. City Manager Tex Middlebrook cooked up some tasty Elk sausage from an Elk he bagged on a recent hunting trip. There was lots of great food available from vendors downtown and several shops were open late for holiday shopping. Afterwards there was a screening of “The Polar Express’ at the Recreation Center hosted by LiveAir Networks.
The Lost Pines Artisans Alliance had their Christmas party on December 11. Merrymaking abounded as well as shopping with many of the items in the Galler’s December show priced at $100.00 or less. This year instead of a gift exchange they had everyone bring a toy for Blue Santa. These toys along with others collected at the Gallery over the past two weeks added up to quite a haul for Blue Santa.
Everyone in the Community has really pitched in this year on the Blue Santa toy drive. Toys were collected at the Chamber mixer. Brookshire Brothers had a fundraiser and used the money to buy toys and the Smithville Noon Lions allocated funds for toy shopping a contributed toys.
It’s hard to beat Christmas in Smithville where there is a real warmth and feeling of Community in all of the holiday celebration.
